Preparer Pleads in Failure to Pay $750K 

Justice and scalesA tax preparer based in Orem, Utah, has pleaded guilty to failure to pay more than $750,000 in personal income taxes. Sergio Sosa, the preparer  admitted in June to  failing to file personal file returns from 2003 through 2017.

He pleaded guilty to tax evasion, conspiring to defraud the United States and obstructing the efforts of the Internal Revenue Service to collect his personal debt. Sosa was found to have caused a tax loss of more than $1.1 millioin

According to the plea, Sosa conspired with two adult children when the IRS tried to collect from him.

Sosa, who operated Sergio Centro Latino, began efforts to obstruct the collection of debt after the IRS audited him. He used nominees to open corporate bank accounts, renamed his business and placed it in his children’s names, and then made false statements to the IRS. He also provided funds to his daughter to make mortgage payments on his personal residence.
