Preparer Fined for Violating Injunction

 Penalty fine hammerA West Palm Beach, Fla.-area tax preparer has been hit with a $213,500 sanction for violating a May 2021 court order that barred him from the tax preparation business.  The amount represents fees Nate E. Dameus, who operates Mobile Tax Express Services, collected while under the permanent injunction.

The Department of Justice said Dameus used the Preparer Tax Identification Number of his cousin, Fedson Dameus, to prepare at least 305 tax returns in 2022 Some of these also included fictitious business and other income losses, and false employer credits for paid family and medical leave.

Dameus must also reimburse the government for the cost of investigating his violations and enforcing the injunction.
