Preparer Must Disgorge $324,432

A Galveston, Texas, preparer who fudged a substantial number of 4,000 federal income tax returns from 2017 through 2012 must disgorge $324,432 to fees he collected to the United States.

An injunction issued by a federal court for the South District of Texas also ordered Jonathan Perry, who operated a preparation firm under the name, X-Pert Taxes to post the injunction in all locations in which he conducts business. That includes social media accounts and websites used to advertise his tax preparation services.

Perry was founded to have used fictitious employee business expenses, fabricated household help income, and fabricated or inflated business losses reduce clients’ tax debt. He was also found to have claimed education and fuel excise tax credits his customers were not entitled to.
