Block Debuts AI Tax Assist

H&R Block has introduced an AI-based assistant for the preparing 2023 income taxes. H&R Block AI Tax Assist draws from data of Block’s The tax Institute and the experience of more than 60,000 tax professionals. to answers questions.

Tax Assist can provide information about tax forms, deductions, and credits, and can guide individuals as they prepare and file their returns, answer tax theory questions and offer navigation instructions.  

It can also answer free-form tax-related questions, “providing dynamic responses that clarify tax terms and give guidance on specific tax rules or general information about the U.S. and state tax system.”

In addition, Tax Assist can answer questions about the tax code, recently changed laws and tax policies.

Moreover, Tax Assist can suggest which Block DIY software package is the best for an individual’s situation.

The DIY products include a Free Online Edition, designed for those with simple tax situation; the Deluxe Online Edition for those with itemized deductions such as homeowners and those with child and dependent care expenses and the Premium Online Editions, described as suited for those owning cryptocurrency, sold stocks or received rental property income. It provides guidance and support for additional tax forms and schedules, such as D and E.

Finally, the Self-Employed Online addition is designed for self-employed individuals, gig workers, freelancers, and independent contractors.
