New 990 Data Format Available

irsThe Internal Revenue Service says public data for electronically filed Forms 990 will be available in a machine-readable format through Amazon Web Service. Data was previously available only in image files, but will now be available as a downloadable file for filings from 2011 to the present.

Data does not include donor information or other personally identifiable information. Available information comes from Form 990, Form 990-EZ and Form 990-PF and related schedules with the exception of certain donor information. The IRS redacts personally identifiable tax-identification numbers. Data from Form 990-N (e-postcard) used by smaller exempt organizations be accessed through www.irs.gov but is not available through AWS.

The IRS says more than 60 percent of such returns are now electronically filed. Both paper and efiled returns will continue to be available through images on DVDs
