Dan Wernikoff, IntuitIntuit ended tax season with TurboTax unit sales 4 percent higher than in the 2017. A 5-percent decline in desktop sales partially offset a 6-percent rise in online subscriptions, the company said this week.

There were 5,030,000 desktop units sold for the tax season through April 21, down from 5,295,000 through April 22, 2017. Intuit reported online subscriptions of 29,814,000 for the year just ended, up from 28,113,000 during the 2017 season

The total also reflected a drop in TurboTax Free File Alliance Units.  Those dropped to 1,1,69,000, off 3 percent from 1,206,000. Overall, the company reported the sale of 36,013,000 units through April 21, an increase from 34,614,000 the prior year.

The company noted its use of tax professionals to provide assistance. TurboTax users with questions are able to contact a professional for advice from within the application.
