IRS to Focus on Non-filing Preparers

The Internal Revenue Service says it will increase contacts with tax return preparers who have failed to file their own tax returns on time. The agency says it will step up revenue office contacts with these professionals.

The contacts are designed to remind preparers of their duty to filing and pay taxes.

Because of COVID-19, the IRS will generally conduct contacts by telephone. While face-to-face contacts are usually unannounced, preparers will receive a letter to schedule the conversation. Revenue officers will identify appropriate ways for delinquent preparers to resolve compliance issues.
