“We are glad that the IRS seems to be listening and responding to the collective frustrations of all taxpayers,” AICPA CEO Melancon said in a statement released this week.
Melancon also applauded the agency’s decision to suspend one notice. But Melancon urged the IRS to take action “as quickly as possible to offer reasonable measures of relief as we are already in the beginnings of tax busy season.”
The American Institute of CPAs has called upon the Internal Revenue Service to action quickly to reassign staff to service centers. The IRS said recently it is considering that step to help alleviate the backlog in tax returns.
