GilmanCiocia and its subsidiary Prime Capital Services have been censured by the SEC and ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars of penalties and interest as the result of the sale of illiquid variable annuities to senior citizens in Florida from 2000 through 2005. The actions came as the result of an Offer in Settlement made by the financial planning organizations to settle allegations regarding fraudulent sale of annuities and lack of supervision of representatives who made the sales of unsuitable investment securities to investors over the age of 65..
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - A continuing explosion in the sale of desktop versions of TurboTax fueled a 10-percent growth in the number of units of the tax preparation software sold by Intuit through March 13. The number of Web units sold rose by 20 percent over the same point in tax season 2009 as sales of desktop units dropped by 2 percent.
RSM McGladrey saw tax services revenue fall by 6.8 percent for the third quarter ended January 31 as sluggish client demand led to lower rates and fewer chargeable hours. The tax services revenue is part of Block's Business Services segment, which is comprised by RSM McGladrey and RSM EquiCo. The latter, a separate reporting unit, assists clients with capital markets transactions. Tax services revenue dropped to just under $73 million in the quarter end ended, down from $78.3 million a year earlier.
