SEC Restores CPA Who Reviewed Enron
Michael Lowther, who was barred from appearing before the SEC in January 2008, has been restored to practice there. The SEC found that Lowther had met the conditions imposed as a result of his actions as concurring reviewer for Arthur Andersen's audits and reviews of Enron's financial statements.
Lowther reviewed Enron's financial statements for the year ended Dec. 31, 1997 through the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2001. The SEC found he engaged in unprofessional conduct in his part in giving Enron unqualified opinions at the time its executives were engaged in massive fraud.
