Louisiana Preparer Convicted

A federal jury has convicted a Baton Rouge, La., tax preparer of fraud and failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of her own income on tax returns. Angela Myers, who operated Angie's Tax Service, was found guilty of wire fraud, making false claims, subscribing to false tax returns and aggravated identity theft. Many of her victims were patients confined to a nursing home.

She was originally accused of filing 11 phony returns. Myers was held to have used her daughter's preparer identification number in using stolen names and Social Security numbers, many who whom resided at Port Allen Care Center in Port Allen, La., and who did not have the ability to leave the facility.

She was also found to have failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of tax preparation few on her 2007 and 2008 returns. This money was used to buy items that included an RV and a $50,000 investment product.
