"CPA.com has been serving as a strong umbrella brand for us for the past 18 months," Erik Asgeirsson, president and CEO of CPA.com, said in announcing the change.
The organization was founded by the AICPA in 2001 with a minority investment from Microsoft and Thomson, which later contributed their stock to the Institute. Much of the original focus was on cpa2biz.com as a portal. The organization became the business home for AICPA conferences and publications. The name CPA.com is also the domain name for email services the company offers to members of the AICPA. That service was launched in the fall of 2011.
The existing URL for the AICPA Store site, cpa2biz.com, will remain active for the foreseeable future. CPA.com is headquartered in New York, N.Y., and has offices in Silicon Valley, Calif., Dexter, Mich., and Durham, N.C.
