The number of of subscribers was up 14.7 percent from the end of the second quarter and 54.6 percent from a year ago.
The company had 965,000 subscribers on January 31 when the second quarter ended and 624,000 on April 30, 2014. Meanwhile, desktop unit sales continued their drop, falling to 371,000 at the quarter's end, a decrease of 30 percent from 286,000 a year earlier.
Intuit's online business in general rose.
There were 395,000 online payroll subscribers on April 30, up 30 percent from 330,000 at the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2014. There were 143,000 online payments customers, up 8 percent from 135,000 for the compared dates. However, that total has fluctuated over the last two years. There were 141,000 customers at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2015, but that dropped to 129,000 for the second quarter
