Report: Payroll Outsourcing Declines

A recent study by Bloomberg BNA shows a sharp drop in the number of companies outsourcing payroll over the last four years. Only 12 percent of respondents in a survey outsourced some or all of their payroll services, down from 56 percent in 2012.

The information is part of the company's Payroll Benchmarks and Analysis 2015-2016, which covers payroll operations, staffs, budgets, responsibilities and performance. The numbers reported also represented a drop from 21 percent in 2013.

Besides covering outsourcing issues, the study reports on the extent of domestic and international operations, speed and efficiency of payroll transactions, and the incidence and resolution of payroll errors, inquiries and fraud.

Both ADP and Paychex were sent queries about a response to the survey. Paychex did not respond and a spokesperson for ADP did not secure a comment from company officials.
