Blackbaud Says Cloud Line Doing Well

Mike Gianoni,  Blackbaud The roll out of his company's web-based NXT line is going well, Mike Gianoni, CEO of nonprofit software vendor Blackbaud said recently. Gianoni made his comments during the webcast of Blackbaud's results for the first quarter ended March 31. "The uptick [in NXT sales] is very healthy," he commented. And results for the quarter were very healthy.

The company has rolled out Raiser's Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT, cloud versions of its fundraising and accounting software. CFO Tony Boor pointed to a strong performance in the entire cloud portfolio, along with the market acceptance of NXT, as being responsible for results.

Gianoni said the benefits of Raiser's Edge NXT go beyond simply moving to the cloud and also stem from the company's Sky technology. This includes Sky API, an application programming interface that enables integration of applications. The CEO said Sky API is in an early adopter program. Programs that can be integrated with the fundraising and CRM packages include payments and analytics.

Another element is Sky UX, a mobile-responsive user interface that has become generally available after going through an early adopter roll out. Gianoni said Sky UX will be implemented across the product line and is already being utilized in six products

For the quarter, net income rose to slightly less than $5 million for the most recently ended period, an increase of 16.6 percent from $4.3 million a year earlier. Revenue moved up by 15.1 percent to $169.3 million, compared to million in last year's corresponding period.

The rise in subscription revenue and correspoinding decline in license sales continued. License revenue dropped to $2.8 million, down 33.8 percent from $4.3 million. Subscription revenue reached $96.9 million, an increase of 33.6 percent from $72.5 million a year ago
