The number of returns prepared at stores open more than one year dropped 5.1 percent. Block said that it saw fewer assisted returns moving from retail to online. The number of digital returns prepared by the company dropped by 3.4 percent fro the season to date, although the number of online returns rose by 2.6 percent.

Block Returns Rise in March, But Season Lags
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The number of tax returns prepared at H&R Block's retail stores rose by 4.3 percent through March 15, compared to the same period in March a year ago, but total returns for this year's tax season are off by 6.3 percent from a year earlier. Same store sales showed the number of returns prepared rising by 7 percent for the period of March 1 through March 15.
