IRS Names Advisory Committee Members

Phil PoirierWASHINGTON —Intuit's Phil Poirier has been elected chairman of the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee following the appointment of seven new committee members by the Internal Revenue Service. Poirier is VP Government in Intuit's Consumer Division.

The new committee members include Sean Brennan of Philadelphia, Pa., president of Brennan and Associate, a CPA who handles individual and business tax returns and has taught accounting at taxes at the college level for 13 years and Alice Burnett of Lawrenceville, Ga.,  owner of consulting firm Burnett & Associates, which offers operational expertise regarding electronic payment options. She also worked on the implementation and operation of the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System.

Also appointed were CPA Harris Widmer of Fargo, N.D., a partner in Widmer Roel and Ned Drinker of Conshohocken, Pa., manager of Oberthur Technologies of America; Douglas Simon of Lincolnshire, Ill., president and founder of HS&A Payroll Services; David Sullivan of East Greenwich, R.I., tax administrator for the Rhode Island Division of Taxation; and T.J. Turner of Sarasota, Fla., director of Income Tax Research for Vertex.

He is known throughout the industry for his depth of knowledge and for his high journalistic standards.  Scott has made frequent appearances as a speaker, moderator and panelist and events serving tax and accounting professionals.
