Webinar Focuses on Scams, ID Theft

 Fraud signsThe Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Trade Commission are holding a free webinar to held attendees deal with tax combat tax scams and tax-related identity theft.

The webinar, which will be held 20 at 2 pm ET, will also explain how taxpayers can apply for an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number.  

Topics include the following:                                                                                                                                                                                     *Common consumer and tax-related identity theft scams;                                                                                                                                      *Reporting and recovering from identity theft;                                                                                                                                                               *Tricks thieves trick their victims into providing personal and financial  information;                                                                                                         *The Protection Personal Identification Number Program;                                                                                                                                         *Avoiding unscrupulous tax in preparers;                                                                                                                                                                *Resources to protect against ID thieves,

The webinar will be closed captioned and feature a question-and-answer session. Those interested can register on the  Internal Revenue Service Webinar Registration page on IRS.gov.

Bob Scott
Bob Scott has provided information to the tax and accounting community since 1991, first as technology editor of Accounting Today, and from 1997 through 2009 as editor of its sister publication, Accounting Technology. He is known throughout the industry for his depth of knowledge and for his high journalistic standards.  Scott has made frequent appearances as a speaker, moderator and panelist and events serving tax and accounting professionals. He  has a strong background in computer journalism as an editor with two former trade publications, Computer+Software News and MIS Week and spent several years with weekly and daily newspapers in Morris County New Jersey prior to that.  A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in journalism, Bob is a native of Madison, Ind
