The number of returns filed for the week ended February 17 was up. 2.6 percent from the season to date Feb. 18, 2022, the Internal Revenue Service said this week.
There 36,859,000 returns filed for the season as reported, compared to 35,922,000 a year ago.
There have 36,079,000 efiles reported his year, an increase of 3.3 percent from 34,940,000 in last year’s corresponding period..
The growth in efiles from professionals continued to outstrip those filed by professionals, probably reflecting the impact of programs such as Intuit’s TurboTax Live. Professionals submitted 15,380,000 efiles, an increase of 8.2 percent from 14,213,000 a year ago. The number of DIY efiles dropped by .1 percent to 20,698,000 from 20,726,000.
The average refile continued to lag a year ago, falling .1 percent to $3,140 from $3,536. The number of refunds issued rose 25.9 percent to 27,781,000 from 22,065,000.
