Laide M. Paulino, a Freeland, Pa.-based tax preparer, has agreed to pay the Internal Revenue Service $888,377 in restitution. Paulino, owner of LP Multiservice, agreed to that step as a part of a guilty plea to preparing and filing false tax returns/
Paulino was charged with assisting clients in falsely claiming education tax credits, including the American Opportunity Tax Credit, for clients in 2019 and 2020. The vast majority were not college students and thus not entitled to the credit.
She acknowledged the returns she prepared and filed cost the IRS between $550,000 and $1.5 million dollars in lost taxes.
