A new task force aimed at combating scams aimed at taxpayers and tax systems has been formed by theInternal Revenue Service, state tax agencies and other members of the tax industry.
The plan is put in place new protections by the next filing season.
Called the Coalition Against Scam and Scheme Threats, the task force will work to expand outreach and education about emerging scams, develop new approaches to identify potentially fraudulent returns at the point of filing and create infrastructure improvements to protect taxpayers as well as federal, state and industry tax systems.
The IRS announcement noted increasing activities involving scams and schemes, including the Fuel Tax Credit, household employment taxes and the Sick and Family Leave Credit.
