LexisNexis Tool Used to Fight Georgia Tax Fraud

lexisnexisLexisNexis says that the State of Georgia is utilizing one of its products in a pilot program aimed at fighting identity fraud. The LexisNexis Tax Refund Investigative Solution has been used since the program was launched in January and utilizes identity verification and authentication tools to find and hopefully halt the filing of fradulent tax returns.

The pilot found that 2 percent of all returns filed were potentially fraudulent. The filters in the application screened tax refund requests against billions of LexisNexis identity records which were aggregated from a large number of sources. When a returned record is flagged with a fraud indicator, the individual is asked to answer questins that only the proper person could answer. Authentication questions were integrated into the Georgia Department of Revenue website and customer service center.
