IRS Cites Hardware Issue in Outage

David Kautter, IRSThe Internal Revenue Service reports all processing systems are working following a hardware issue on Tuesday, April 17, that halted several services. The agency says it accepted more than 14 million returns after what it described as a Tuesday morning problem.

However, some sections of the IRS website, including eServices were still down until the early evening.

“We are back up and running. The overnight performance means that the IRS is current with all of the tax submissions, and no backlog remains,” acting commissioner David Kautter said in a prepared statement.

Because of the outages, the IRS extended the filing deadline through midnight, tonight, April 18.
