With no government shutdown to deal with this year , the Internal Revenue Service kicked off the 2020 tax season today with relative ease. It began accepting and processing federal tax returns for tax year 2019.
There are no complications from holidays in Massachusetts and Washington D.C. this year either so the deadline for filing and payment is Wednesday, April 15. The IRS expects 150 million 1040s will be filed for 2019.
The IRS also predicts 90 percent of returns will be filed electronically.
