Intuit CEO's Pay Rose 17.4 Percent

Intuit's non-equity incentive plan boosted compensation for most of Intuit's named executives by double digits for the year ended July 31. CEO Brad Smith had the sharpest increase from that plan, a 60-percent increase that pushed his total compensation 17.3 percent higher than in fiscal 2015.
Thomson Adds New Checkpoint Search

A new search method from Thomson Reuters is designed to provide shortcuts to obtaining answer on commonly searched federal tax topics within Checkpoint. The new feature, Answer Path, simplifies such searches, according to Steve Mendelsohn, managing director of Knowledge Solutions at the company.
Former Franchisor Socked with $5M Judgment

A federal court has barred Walner Gachette, the franchisor for the former LBS Tax Services chain, from preparing tax returns for others. A $5-million judgment was also entered against the man who ran the nation's fourth-largest tax store chain until it was shut down by federal action for pervasive fraud and charging some customers $999 for preparing an individual tax return.
