Avalara Ramps Up Accountant Effort

Brian AustinSales-and-use tax vendor Avalara is ramping up its efforts to reach accountants. The Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based vendor signalled that initiative with the appointment this week of Brian Austin as director of accountant and industry relations.

Austin, who has 15 years of public relations experience in the accounting market, was most recently public relations director for SpeedTax, the rival sales tax company that was recently purchased by CCH.

Austin will oversee Avalara's outreach to accountants in public practice and industry and will work with organizations such as the American Institute of CPAs and state CPA societies to help educate accounting professionals about the role technology can play in solving clients' sales tax issues.
