A Long Island, N.Y., CPA has been indicted for allegedly collecting $124,275 in a variety of benefits while working as an accountant. The office of the New York State Inspector General said Abraham Grossman of Chase Commons, Yaphank, received food stamps and home heating aid while maintaining a home in Suffolk County, N.Y., and a beach-front condo in Florida.

Grossman, also known as Alan Grossman, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on all charges. He was indicted on two counts of theft of government funds and one count of possession of a forged security

While working as a CPA and collecting Social Security retirement benefits, he allegedly created a false identity by obtaining a second SSN and New York State driver's license under an assumed name.

He used those documents, while also claiming fictitious employment at four different businesses, to obtain additional retirement, unemployment and public assistance benefits.
