OfficeTools, which markets practice management and workflow applications, has been acquired by AbacusNext. The purchase of OfficeTools by San Diego, Calif.-based AbacusNext is the latest move by the organization to expand into the accounting firm marketplace.
It has historically sold applications to law firms.
Based in Palmdale, Calif., OfficeTools will continue to operate under Mike Giardina, who founded the software company is 1993. Giardina's title changes from CEO of the previously independent company to EVP of products under the new owners. Terms were not disclosed. OfficeTools has 35 people on staff.
In February, AbacusNext acquired CloudNine Real-time, which provides hosting services in the QuickBooks market, and Results CRM, a cloud-based product that also interfaces with QuickBooks Online.
The acquirer said it intends to expand the product lines and Giardina said that will also happen with OfficeTools. "With AbacusNext, we get this oporutnity to take this to a bigger picture," he said.
OfficeTools markets the desktop WorkSpace practice management system, which Giardina says is the only package to support the entire Practice Management LifeCycle. The company also markets the WorkSpace Portal, which offers online document sharing, invoicing, and payment portal combined with appointment request systems, client check-in kiosk and online staff time sheets.
Giardina said the company will discuss plans for the cloud at its Accelerate user conference on June 20 through 22 in Las Vegas, Nev.
