N.J. Man Pleads to False Return Charge

Berrisford GroupA Somerville, N.J.-based tax preparer has pleaded guilty to trying to impede Internal Revenue laws and preparing a false tax return. Eric Majette, 52, owner of the Berrisford Group Tax & Accounting Services entered the plea after being indicted in January.

Majette had been indicted on twenty-nine counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns for clients and one count of corruptly endeavoring to obstruct and impede the Internal Revenue laws.

Majette was accused of inflating itemized deductions and credits to boost client refunds. After his clients were audited, Majette submitted false charitable contribution receipts to the IRS to support returns he prepared. Sentencing is scheduled for September 24.
