Accountants are far more likely to share documents online than their clients, according to an online survey conducted by YouGov survey in October and commissioned by CCH. And the gap in attitudes raising some questions for firms that want to make documents available via Internet portals.
Forty-five percent of clients don't share documents online and don't plan to do so soon, while only 34 percent of accountants reported the same resistance. And 25 percent of accountants said that the ability to work with digital documents has been the most beneficial development for the profession over the last decade.
Among the accounting professionals, 39 percent believe technology is the biggest factor driving change in their business, placing it second to the 57 percent who believe increased regulatory complexity is most important. Another 39 percent cited the impact of the global recession.
The number surveyed by YouGov was 315 business owners (clients) and managers and 210 accountants.
