IRS Moves 1040 Deadline for 2011
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service has opened the tax filing season with the announcement that the filing deadline for individual returns has been extended to Monday, April 18. That's because The District of Columbia is celebrating Emancipation Day on Friday, April 15, giving taxpayers around the country the extra days.
Emancipation Day celebrates the day that President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act in 1862. By law, holidays in the distrct impact tax deadlines in the same way federal holidays do.
