Alabama Preparer Charged in ID Fraud

An Alabama tax preparer has been indicted for allegedly using stolen identifications to prepare and file tax returns. The preparer, Teresa Floyd, has been charged with several counts of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The indictment also seeks a forfeiture of $320,397 by Floyd.

Floyd, who operated a business called T&L Tax Service in Phenix City, Ala., faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count and two years for each aggravated identity theft count. She is also subject to fines, forfeiture and restitution if convicted. The indictment said Floyd file phony tax returns using stolen IDs and creted fake ID documents and bills in the name of those individuals.
