Twelve IRSAC Members Named for 2020

The Internal Revenue Service has appointed 12 new members to the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council. The IRS this month appointed the 12 individuals to three-year terms on the committee, an organized public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss various issues in tax administration.


The 2020 chair is Diana Erbsen, a New York-based tax partner for DLA Piper. She previously served as deputy assistant attorney general for appellate and review for the tax division of the U.S. Department of Justice from November 2014 until January 2017. She has been an IRSAC member since 2018.

The following persons were appointed to the council beginning next year 2020:
*Walter "Ted" Afield, director of the Philip C. Cook Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and associate clinical professor of law at Georgia State University in Atlanta;
*Martin Armstrong, VP of payroll shared services with Charter Communications, in Charlotte, N.C. He is also currently accounting and finance area chair for the University of Phoenix;
*Sharon Brown, a partner with New York-based Barclay Damon LLP. She is a member of the American Bar Association Tax Section and Affordable Housing and Community Development Section;
*CPA Robert Howren, tax director/assistant treasurer for BlueLinx Corp., Marietta, Ga.;
*EA Denise Jackson, VP of tax preparer development with the State Employees' Credit Union in Raleigh, N.C.;
*Kathleen Lach, partner in the business and finance department of Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP, Chicago;
*EA Kelly Myers, a tax consultant with Myers Consulting Group, LLC, in Owens Crossroads, Ala.;
*Joseph Novak, VP of taxes for Abbott Laboratories in Abbott Park, Ill.;
*Robert Panoff, a tax attorney in Miami.;
*Nancy Ruoff, statewide payroll and collections manager for the state of Kansas in Topeka, Kan.;
*Katherine Sunderland, assistant general counsel of tax law at the Investment Company Institute in Washington, an association representing regulated funds globally; and
*Kevin Valuet, senior payroll consultant for PayTech.

Bob Scott
Bob Scott has provided information to the tax and accounting community since 1991, first as technology editor of Accounting Today, and from 1997 through 2009 as editor of its sister publication, Accounting Technology. He is known throughout the industry for his depth of knowledge and for his high journalistic standards.  Scott has made frequent appearances as a speaker, moderator and panelist and events serving tax and accounting professionals. He  has a strong background in computer journalism as an editor with two former trade publications, Computer+Software News and MIS Week and spent several years with weekly and daily newspapers in Morris County New Jersey prior to that.  A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in journalism, Bob is a native of Madison, Ind
