Massachusetts CPA Disbarred on Appeal

The move to disbar a Massachusetts CPA by the Internal Revenue Service has been sustained on appeal. The Office of the Chief Counsel disbarred Charles Edgar, who had face the original action because he represented clients before the IRS even though his CPA license had been revoked in 2010 based in part on a 1995 felony conviction.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has restored the ability of Anthony J. Price, audit partner with KMJ Corbin & Co. to practice before that body. Corbin was barred from practicing before the SEC in September 2010 for his role in the audits and reviews of the financial statements of Home Solutions of America.
Avalara Links to Maryland, Illinois Societies

Avalara, which makes cloud-based sales-and-use tax products, has entered alliances with the Maryland and Illinois CPA societies. The agreements mean Avalara now has formal relationships with 10 state societies and the company expects more to follow.
