IRS Starts Email Security Campaign

The Internal Revenue Service has launched an education campaign, which alerts tax professionals to the dangers of email scams. The agency receives three to five data theft reports weekly from tax practitioners and says 177 tax professionals or firms reported client data thefts from January through May.
Sage Promotes AI Ethics Code
Sage has developed an ethics code for developing software that utilizes artificial intelligence. At its Summit conference in Canada, Sage outlined "The Ethics of Code: Developing AI for Business with Five Core Principles." The discussion of ethics and the values coded into systems which use artificial intelligence has been growing rapidly.

A nonprofit has an auditor coming in tomorrow. The staff is nervous and has spent days pulling files, canceled checks and more paper documents for the on-site visit. They have many questions: What will the auditor want? Is this enough documentation? What happens if we can't find what they need? Once the auditor arrives, more time will be spent accommodating him or her and ensuring that all the needed information is in the right hands for review.

Internet of Things Coming on Fast
At the Sapphire conference of software giant SAP in May, there was a demonstration of a sensor-equipped power tool being used to drill a hole in a thin panel of concrete. When the job was finished, the drill communicated with the company's financial software. It reported the cost of the job and application was ready to spit out an invoice.
Sage to Test Accountant Cloud
Sage plans to test its upcoming Accountant Cloud suite via an early adopter program. The software company intends to release that product in the United Kingdom in July and the United States in the fall. However, features are not completely fixed and will be shaped by the test.

Tax season 2017 took a step backward as it went into the last weekend. After a season marked by week-by-week improvement, most figures from the Internal Revenue Service for the season through April 14 fell behind the corresponding period ended April 15, 2016.
Xero Debuts Software That Learns

Xero has introduced machine learning automation into its cloud-based financial software. The company says that the new technology means that the software will learn to perform such tasks as recording invoices against the proper account without business owners having to worry about making a mistake.

Xero has established the position of chief partner officer. The company recently named Anna Curzon to the new role. Curzon had served as managing director for New Zealand for the last year for the cloud software accounting company.
