Intuit Reshapes Rev Rec for the Cloud

Intuit is adapting its accounting for cloud-based operation. The Mountain View, Calif.-based software vendor is now recognizing desktop revenue over time, instead of at the time of the sale. The move has a big impact as it shifts about $400 million in revenue from the year ending July 31, 2015 into future fiscal years.
Tax & Accounting Leads Thomson Growth

With Thomson Reuters continuing to point to the future for good results from its financial services businesses, it was recently able to discuss double-digit growth for its Tax & Accounting operations. As net income dropped and revenue was flat, Tax & Accounting produced a 12.3-percent rise in operating profit on a 14-percent upturn in income for the third quarter ended June 30.
Tax, Accounting Software Sales Good for Wolters Kluwer

Wolters Kluwer reported that its Tax & Accounting software business was relatively strong for the first half ended June 30. The company said in an earnings webcast this week that the software business had organic revenue growth of 4 percent. However, CEO Nancy McKinstry said that reorganization in the unit is reducing its profit margins for 2014.
