Revenue for Tax & Accounting Professional segment rose to $182 million for the second quarter ended June 30, an increase of 3 percent over $176 million a year ago, Thomson Reuters said this month. The company said revenue for small, mid and large accounting firms, 80 percent of the total, grew by 4 percent.

Automatic Data Processing is testing its new Lifion Human Capital Management Platform, payroll product and tax engine. CEO Carlos Rodriguez said in a recent web cast for earnings for the year ended June 30 that the company is selling the Lifion and payroll efforts on a limited basis, but is expanding sales.

Congress should clarify the role of the Internal Revenue Service in administering the Earned Income Tax Credit, Tax Advocate Nina Olson, said in report relesed to Congress this month. Other changes should include new definitions and processes, along with establishing minimum standards for tax preparers, the results said.
