Republic Refund Income Plunges

Income from the tax refund business of Republic Bancorp plunged for the first quarter ended March 31. The company last year was the last bank to offer Refund Anticipation Loans. This year, it reported the loss of two retail tax chains that had been represented more than half of its refund transfer volume were factors as refund fee income dropped to just over $12 million for the most recently ended quarter, down from $71.7 million a year earlier.
Sage 50 (Peachtree) to Update More Often

Sage North America has launched Sage 50 Accounting 2014-U.S., the latest version of the low-cost accounting package that was known as Peachtree until last year. And the company broke with past practice of introducing new versions in May by pushing it out the door this month to make way for more-frequent updates.

IRS, State Extend Boston Tax Deadline

The Internal Revenue Service and state of Massachusetts have extended the filing deadline for some of the state's residents following the bombings at the Boston Marathon this week. The IRS extended the deadline for residents of Suffolk County and Boston for three months while the state has also postponed its deadline for all Boston-area residents.
