Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.

With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.

In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.

Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and

filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those

They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

I Hate to Say This, but ……

I choose to live in my home state, South Dakota. It’s a wonderful place full of smart, courteous, hard working people that produce an economy that, compared to the rest of the US, is almost recession-proof. I have no complaints about my income-tax free home state but I do wish that AT&T would hurry and add primary coverage so we could get the Apple iPhone! I’ve seen it, often --- in fact, I actually own an iTouch, the cellular-less first cousin of the iPhone. But, alas, no iPhone for us.

But, as I tweeted two weeks ago I DO have a brand-new shiny Palm Pre that I’m pretty impressed with, so far. It’s been out only 15 days and has only a paltry 30 or so applications in its store. That said it’s interesting to note that Pre owners have downloaded over 750,000 applications in those 15 days. I know I certainly did my part!

Software as a Service (SaaS) Back to the Time Sharing Future

Once upon a time, long, long ago, there was a world, almost forgotten now, where only a few people knew how to type. Since then, computer use has grown exponentially and the range of computer device sizes would make a clothing store proud. Almost everyone is learning how to type so they can, if they choose, use some small percentage of the hundreds of thousands of computing applications available.

One of the ways we used computing applications back in the 1960s was dubbed “Time Sharing.” This system enabled the use of a terminal (keyboard and paper or keyboard and monitor) to send an electronic signal from the terminal connected to a telephone modem connected to a telephone line that would support transport through telephone cabling to a modem connected to a large computer in some other location. Time-sharing gave users access to applications and computing power that could be used as needed. Fees for this service were typically determined by minutes of connect time or on some contractual basis.

Technology Required: Making 7216 Manageable

Future-thinking firms are taking advantage of the latest and greatest technologies to elevate efficiency at all levels of operation. From automating tax document preparation to delivery of financial statements via portals, technology is at the heart of a well-run and profitable practice. But what about beyond core tax and accounting workflow? Technology certainly has a place in relation to compliance—for example with Internal Revenue Code Section 7216. Disclosure and Use mandates set forth in 7216 are complex and demand significant time investment. Tech-savvy firms realize that technology is the answer to streamlining the compliance process and are starting to transition from traditional, manual processes to a technology-driven approach.

Sharepoint for the Rest of US

In one corner, you’ve got Sharepoint, an extraordinary tool for building office collaboration systems. In the other, generic social media tools like FaceBook and Twitter. What if neither works for your firm?

There’s an option in the middle, “Sharepoint for the rest of us,” as the company calls it. Box.net provides a ready-made framework for collaborating online and sharing files in an office environment. The company recently added full-text search capabilities that support Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as PDFs, TXT, and CSV files.

In upcoming weeks, the company plans to add enhancements in areas like collaboration, full-text search, and workflow and project management.

The Business version costs $15/user/month, and there’s a free lite version.
