BillQuick Software

BillQuick BQE Software has recently completed a major redevelopment and improvement project for its time and billing package.  With a more complex install, BillQuick runs certain services such as automated report generation, the SQL back-end, and Web services from a firm's servers and has a desktop component for all daily timekeeping, project management, and billing functions.

The first impression of BillQuick is generally favorable with a front-end interface offering volumes of information to the user.  However, one may quickly note that no spot of screen real-estate has been left empty or void of menus, graphs, or workflow navigation.  That can be overwhelming to new users and basic timekeepers who have limited needs, and lead to a complicated setup process if ease-of-use is a priority.  It can also complicate the setup scope for some firms desiring to use more features of the product.

Clients and projects are the core concept of BillQuick.  Project management is aided through budgets, staff assignments, and calendaring functionality.  These have been enhanced with new personnel reassignment screens, and a closing-date option to lock invoices and data entry to that project.  Time-sheets and billing have been simplified in the desktop application, with new "simple time card" and "simple expense entry" screens that reduce the number of required data-entry fields.  Improved navigation features for billing review have been added.  Time submissions can now generate email notification to managers for approval.

Integration is a strong feature-set in BillQuick, and it just got stronger with a recently released Outlook Add-in.  It allows for task and appointment billing, with smart-guess client identification when billing for writing emails to clients.  The default for this function is in 1/4 hour billing increments. Mail-server direct connections are now supported, simplifying the report and invoice email procedure.  Accounting applications supported by BillQuick now include QuickBooks, Peachtree, MS Office Accounting, and MYOB.  An HR application is available from BillQuick which can be used to manage performance reviews and personnel.

Efforts were made to reduce the paper used in printing reports.  In the example of aging reports, they now require 20-30% less paper.  While the vendor states "reports are more condensed, more manageable", they also appear crammed, cluttered, busy, colorful, and difficult to read.  Some reports have been improved, and BillQuick hired the Sleeter Group to assist in the development of reports specific to accounting firms' needs.  The new dashboard provides complete insight into many firm metrics, with significant customization available.

Advantages:
- Strong integration with several major accounting packages.
- Modules that allow firms to grow into web connectivity, Outlook integration, and automated report generation and delivery.
- Recent improvements to billing processes and available reports, specific to accounting firms.
- Mobile version of Web Suite that is compatible with all major mobile providers with no additional application to install.
- Use of email to improve workflow and reduce paper generation.

Final Assessment:
This is a product for growing, competitive firms with on-hand technical expertise.  BillQuick provides a comprehensive solution covering project, cost, and personnel management with automated and mobile tools.
