Free federal tax preparation and e-filing software is.now available through the Free File program. Qualified taxpayers can chose from tax software made by companies that are members.
The Free File program opened this week to those with a 2022 adjusted gross income of $73,000 or less. The Internal Revenue Service will not begin processing returns until January 23, but taxpayers can prepare them via software accessible through Free File
The seven companies that are members of The Free File Alliance offer access to their software via the program. For the 2023 season, these are 1040Now, ezTaxReturn.com (English and Spanish), FileYourTaxes.com, FreeTaxUSA, On-Line Taxes, TaxAct and TaxSlayer.
Those who wish to utilize mobile devices can access the products via Use IRS2Go app, which has a link to the Free File Software Lookup Tool or (2) use the device's browser to go to www.IRS.gov/freefile. The IRS2Go app is available for Android and iOS.
Beginning, January 23, basic federal e-filing services, Free File Fillable Forms, will also be available to filers no matter theiro income level.
