Preparer Accused of Seeking 118 PPP Loans

A South Florida tax preparer has been accused of seeking more than $2.3 million in loans under the Paycheck Protection Program. Leonel Rivero, 35, of Miami, has charged with wire fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain the COVID-19 relief loans under the PPP program.

The Department of Justice alleges Rivero, who owned a tax preparation business, prepared the applications on behalf of himself and accomplices, whose names were not mentioned in the DOJ press release announcing the actions. Rivero is alleged to have falsified each applicant’s prior-year income and expenses on the PPP loan applications. He and his accomplices allegedly received about $975,582 in PPP loan disbursements
