Preparer Receives 150-Month Term

irsAn Atlanta, Ga.-based tax preparer has been sentenced to 150 months in prison for filing fraudulent returns that claimed more than $20 million in refunds. Cheryl Singleton, age 29, who owned and operated Advanced Tax Services, used a variety of tools to increase client refunds, along with stealing identities.

Former N.Y. Preparer Pleads to Fraud

DOJA former Queens, N.Y., tax preparer has pleaded guilty to using a variety of bogus deductions to inflate client tax returns. Vanya Thompson, 39, who operated tax businesses under a variety of names, admitted falsifying items on returns, which the Depature of Justice said produced a tax loss of $250,000.
