Scott Fleszar, Thomson Reuters Thomson Reuters' home page prominently displays the words "Are You Ready for blockchain?" And that is just one of the signs that the company is betting heavily on a technology that much of the market is just beginning to understand.

That headline is above a button on the Thomson web page that leads to a report, which explains Blockchain. There was clearly interest at the exhibit hall at the company's Synergy conference in November. More than 40 people quickly gathered around a short presentation about blockchain basics

But the products that Thomson says will hit the market over the next year are far more than basic and they will arrive as many of the public accounting firms which are Thomson's customers are still grappling with moving to the cloud.

Thomson has ambitious goals for blockchain technology.

"BlockChain is going to impact financial markets first It will change you pay for things and how you own things", says Scott Fleszar, VP of product management. One the tax and accounting side, he says one goal is to move application purchasing and renewal online "without the need to engage the sales team."

The company is also moving toward self-service support. Overall, when products come to market, there will be less need for data migration.

Thomson has already named its blockchain line. BlockOne  is the company's name for its products that utilize the distribution ledger architecture. Warming up at the gate are BlockOne IQ, Thomson Reuter data for blockchain applications, and BlockOneID, an identity mapping for Ethereum applications.
