Profit and revenue for the Bureau of National Affairs rebounded for the year ended December 31 with its software operations continuing to produce a disproportionate amount of the company's operating profits. BNA net income rose by 58 percent, largely because of lower expenses, while revenue was virtually unchanged. However, the software segment, which includes BNA Software and STF Services Corp., produced 24 percent of the operating profit even though it represents only 9.4 percent of revenue.

Payroll services provider Paychex reported a 17-percent increase in net income on a 5-percent rise in revenue for the third quarter ended February 28. The company said improved economic conditions contributed to the improvements, although new company formation continues to lag. Paychex expects payroll revenue to rise from 1 percent to 2 percent and human resources revenue from 11 percent to 12 percent for the current fiscal year. Read more...

The Institute of Management Accountants has welcomed the looming entry of the American Institute of CPAs into its arena with a proposed new designation for management accountants. The IMA said the AICPA's effort, in a proposed joint venture with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, shows the importance of management accounting.

The Tax Manager browser-interface provides updates to data such as bills, assessments, real estate, personal property and returns while the Tax Center offers analytical tools. An overview screen displays multiple years of valuation and tax history for any parcel or property while graphs show the valuation of property through each stage of the assessment process from projected, to rendered, to initial through final values.
