Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.
With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.
In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.
Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and
filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those
They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

ALEXANDRA, Va., Donny J. Woods, a public accountant and enrolled agent based in Nashville, Ark., has been named as president of the National Association of Accountants as the organization elected national, district and state officers at its 65th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. He replaces outgoing president Robert L. Cross of Northglenn, Colo.
Thomson Names Strategic VP for Tax and Accounting

NEW YORK - Thomson Reuters has named Taneli Ruda, most recently a VP at mobile phone vendor Nokia, as SVP of strategy for the company's Tax & Accounting business, a newly created position. Ruda's appointment comes at a time that the company has been expanding globally with products such as Checkpoint Learning and the OneSource Global Tax Workstation.

Accounting doctrine and the accounting profession encroached on the process banks used in making decisions about credit and contributed to the lending crisis, according to Tim Long, senior deputy comptroller for bank supervision policy and chief national bank examiner. In remarks delivered at this week's AICPA National Conference on Banks and Savings Institutions, Long said accounting issues got in the way of judgments that should have been made "by the people best able to speak to the bank's overall credit risk exposure: its senior managers and its credit administration and credit risk professionals, with oversight by its prudential supervisors."
Intuit, Nokia Plan Small Biz Marketing Service
Intuit is continuing its march on the small business market through alliances with other major vendors this week with the announcement that it and Nokia are developing a mobile and web-based marketing service for small businesses. That follows a late August agreement with Verizon Communications to market website services and marketing tools.

For those who thought refund anticipation loans were too expensive, they are going to get more so during the next filing season. That was the message of Steve Trager, CEO of Republic Bancorp, who this week told investors that Republic Bank would likely issue fewer, more expensive refund loans because of the decision by the Internal Revenue Service to stop providing the debt indicator. California CPA Firm Draws SEC Censure
A California accounting firm, KMJ Corbin & Co., has been censured by the SEC and two partners, Kendall G. Merkley and Anthony J. Price, suspended from SEC practice. The charges stemmed from their audits of the financial statements of Home Solutions of America who America whose officers last year settled charges they manipulated results to inflate revenue by more than $40 million through the use of such tools as bogus invoices, phony accounting entries and backdated contracts. The firm, which has offices in Costa Mesa and San Diego, must also provide each audit professional with 24 hours of training in audit and fraud detection.

The American Institute of CPAs has launched a website called ThisWaytoCPA.com for college students and CPA-exam candidates. The site is designed to educate them about the path to becoming and a CPA and about career opportunities in the profession.
Jackson Hewitt Expects RAL Funding
Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, which got refund loan backing for only half its operations during the 2010 tax season, expects to have an agreement for full funding by September 15. The company made that announcement during its first-quarter conference call this morning. Having 100-percent funding is required by its new lending agreement, which mandates the chain notify lenders by that date. Jackson Hewitt also expects obtaining full funding will be crucial to franchisees deciding to accept a new franchisee agreement, which was completed this week.
SEC: Advisor/Preparer Bilked Clients for $11 Million

The SEC has charged Sandra Venetis, a Branchburg, N.J. resident who operates financial planning, tax and accounting and investment firms, with fraudulently obtaining at least $11 million from clients since 1997. The allegations said Venetis used the funds to pay gambling debts, buy her daughter a home, fix her brother's house, and pay for personal expenses and overseas trips, among other items.

RSM McGladrey had an operating loss of $400,000 in the first quarter ended July 31 compared to pre-tax income of $1.3 million a year earlier. Those numbers came as its parent H&R Bock reported its results for the quarter ended July 31. The accounting unit also saw revenue drop 1.6 percent to $174.7 million from $177.6 million. Read more...
