H&R Block says it is halting its ExpressTax brand, a service that helped people who filed their taxes early and wanted refunds quickly. The company said it would ask many of the franchisees who operate 269 ExpressTax offices to join its main tax store channel.

Financial planning firm GilmanCioccia reported a $1.8- million loss for the year ended June 30, up from the $1.6 million in red ink the prior year. Revenue for fiscal 2011 was $41.5 million, down 4.2 percent from $43.3 million in 2010. Read more...

Lower increases in the value of their pension plans led to a drop in overall compensation for three top executives of Automatic Data Processing. That included CEO Gary Butler who saw his pay decline to $8.9 million for fiscal 2011, down from $9.1 million the prior year.
