CPA Draws SEC Ban on Independence Issue

A New Jersey CPA has been barred from practicing before the SEC after his actions put his new firm in conflicting roles with an audit client,. The SEC barred Brian Zucker, who can reapply for reinstatement after one year. The agency placed the blame for problems squarely on Zucker, but his firm, Rosenberg Rich Baker Berman & Company was censured. RRBB agreed to cease and desist from committing any violations to pay a $25,000 civil money penalty and $12,000 disgorgement.

Some of the terms in Randy Johnston’s presentation are not recognized by your average running of Microsoft Word, words such as consumerization and gamification. But those are among the Top 20 Trends covered by the K2 Enterprises consultant and CPA in his technology update at the recent AICPA Tech+ Conference. Many of the trends involve phrases and words that are becoming familiar to many who are only marginally involved in technology, such as big data, cloud computing and on-demand services.
AICPA Intros SME Reporting Framework

The American Institute of CPAs has introduced the Financial Reporting Framework for Small-and Medium-Sized Entities. FRF for SME’s is a new accounting option for preparing streamlined relevant financial statements for privately held, owner-managed businesses that are not required to use U.S. GAAP.
