Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

 Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.

With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.

In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.

Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and

filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those 

They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

California Tax Preparer Shut Down

california mapA California tax preparer has been permanently barred from preparing federal tax returns for others. Mario Placencia of Alhambra Calif., who conducted business as MP Accounting Services of Montebello, Calif., agreed to a civil injunction order that also required him to contact customers who paid him to prepare returns since Jan. 1, 2003 and inform them of his status. U.S. Targets Michigan Preparers, Attorney

The United States has asked a federal court in Detroit to bar two Michigan residents from preparing federal tax returns for others and also seeks to stop a Michigan attorney from promoting their alleged tax-fraud scheme. The action asks to stop Damian Jackson, a minister,  and his wife Holly Jackson, residents of Sterling Heights, Mich., from preparing returns. The other target of the alleged fraud scheme is Tammy Daniels, an attorney from Farmington Hills, Mich., an associate of the Jacksons. Their actions resulted in at least $1.6 million in refunds.

Intuit Deals with Outages

Intuit logoIntuit has been grappling with outages and delays that have affected a number of its online services, including payment processing during much this week. Initially, Intuit reported that a weekend update had caused the problems, but issues persisted for the next two days.

U.S. Seeks to Shut Down Tax Preparer

department-of-justice-logoThe Department of Justice is seeking to shut down a Detroit-based tax preparer, Crystal Ireland, and her business, Master Mind Preparation. In a civil suit, the department alleges that Ireland, who had been previously penalized by the Internal Revenue Service, falsified her clients' income in order to claim the maximum earned-income tax credit and seeks to bar her and the business from preparing income tax returns for others.

SurePrep SPbinder, Electronic Binder

SPbinder, an electronic binder application from SurePrep, can be used to prepare, review and share a paperless set of workpapers for any engagement type. It expands SurePrep's binder technology to documents other than tax returns for the first time and enables firms to create binder templates for each type of engagement.

BNA Deal Clears Anti-Trust

BNA logoThe proposed acquisition of the Bureau of National Affairs has cleared an anti-trust hurdle. The companies announced they have received early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976. Bloomberg can continue with a $39.50 per share tender offer to purchase BNA for about $990 million.

Thomson Releases Mobile CS for Android

thomson reutersThomson Reuters has released an Android-compatible version of Mobile CS, an application that enables users of  mobile devices to access its Practice CS database. Mobile CS supports devices running Android 2.1 or higher as well as iPhones, iPads and the iPod. Among capabilities provided is the ability to enter time and expenses remotely with entries flowing automatically into Practice CS.

Paychex Names Sales VP - Again

paychex logoPayroll services provider Paychex has named former Ricoh executive Mark A. Bottini as its new SVP of sales. Bottini, who will take over the job next month, fills a vacancy left when the previous new hire, Rebecca F. Bernson, resigned on June 6 after five days on the job.

NSA Names Top Accountant

The National Society of Accountants has named Paul  V. Thompson of Alexandria, Va., as its Accountant of the Year. The award is given to a member in recognition of outstanding achievement and service to NSA, the accounting and tax profession, the state society, and the community. Thompson, EA, ABA, ATA, ARA, has been a speaker on tax and accounting issues and is currently chair of the NSA Federal Taxation Committee.

Avalara Ramps Up Accountant Effort

Brian AustinSales-and-use tax vendor Avalara is ramping up its efforts to reach accountants. The Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based vendor signalled that initiative with the appointment this week of Brian Austin as director of accountant and industry relations.
