Cloud software company Xero reported this week that it has topped the one-million subscriber level. The New Zealand-based publisher did not break down its user base by geography but should be expected to do that when it reports financial results for the year that ends this week.

Ray Barlow, who heads accounting programs in North America, is leaving Sage. Barlow this week confirmed he will depart the software company where he has worked since August 2015.

Australian software company Reckon, which bought SmartVault in January 2016, wants to spin off its document management business. The new company would be responsible for both SmartVault and Reckon's previous document management line, Virtual Cabinet. The products represent about 15 percent of Reckon's annual revenue.
